Twin Town of Burnham on Crouch
L'Aiguillon sur Mer has been the twin town of Burnham since may 1980.
The population is 2,206 with an area of 785 ha.
The climate is mild in the winter and the second sunniest in the whole of France being narrowly beaten by the Riviera. The region is very popular with French holidaymakers but is fast growing in popularity with Britons.
The River Lay provides a safe harbour and divides L'Auigillon and La Faut sur Mer.
The port at L'Aiguillon was created in the 11th century and during the Ancien regime, the best canoneers of the coast-guard militia were recruited here.
Today it is an important centre for fishing and the cultivation of Oysters and Mussels.

Fishing
A number of fishing boats are based at the harbour to catch fresh fish and to tend to the mussel beds for which the area is famous.
Both in L'Aiguillon as well as in La Faute there is a twice weekly a weekly market where you can buy mussels, oysters and fish fresh from the fishing boat.
The beds are visible at low tide when thousands of stakes attracts mussels which are then picked by fishermen.
Burnham on Crouch Twinning Association
The Twinning Association organises visits to L'Aiguillon several times each year and helps to co-ordinate visits by local groups including St Peters High School and St Mary's Primary School.
